Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be lightly esteemed. (1Samuel 2:30b NIV)

Honor in this passage is the idea of weightiness – who or what holds the weight of influence in ours lives. We honor God by honoring His word (Lk. 6:46-47).
Here’s the key: We can and must choose our priorities. Priorities are simply what we value, the things that are most important to us. If we don’t set the priorities in our lives, other people, situations, mood swings, culture, or any number of things will set them for us. When this happens we cease to honor God because we’re giving more weight to other voices than we are to His. When we cease to honor God, God is not at liberty to honor us.

However, when we honor Him by hearing and acting on His word, then He honors us with the greatest of blessings: Himself – His abiding presence at home with us and in us, making our joy complete because His joy is in us (Jn. 14:23; 15:11). May you overflow with the fullness of His joy in you today!
