Commit

Devotion

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” (Proverbs 16:3)

The Hebrew word translated “commit” in this passage literally means, “to roll out.” When a Hebrew in ancient times wanted to present a gift to someone they would roll it up in cloth or leather. When they presented it, they would “roll out” their gift to the person to whom they were giving it. It’s been said our life is God’s gift to us; what we do with it is our gift to God. When you make a gift of your activities to God, then God makes your plans succeed. Notice that this passage says, “Your plans will succeed.” God gives the vision. He reveals your purpose. You make the plans. As God gives you a vision for this year, write it down. Then write down goals that will advance you toward that vision and action plans to achieve those goals. Every day “roll out” your goal oriented actions as your gift to God, and your plans will succeed in accomplishing God’s purpose in your life.
