The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.

Genesis 2:7 NLT

Have you ever wondered, Where did I come from? Before your eyes glaze over and you start to dream of pizza or the newest episode of This Is Us, I need you to focus. This will help to build the foundation of your creativity. God’s fingerprint is woven throughout our anatomy! Our body is an intricately designed, wonderfully made, creative miracle.

God created us. Got it? Let’s take it a step further…

Researcher Ginger Allen writes, “God breathed into man the breath of life. The terms Spirit and breath, in reference to God’s, are often used interchangeably. God’s breath is His Spirit. God exhaled His breath into the body that He had formed, giving man not only an earthly origin but a divine one.

“God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27 NLT). Which means our human spirit reflects God’s divine attributes. Since He is the Ultimate Creator and we reflect Him, that means… you guessed it, we are all born creative! So the next time you hear somebody say, “I’m not creative,” ninja chop him or her with some Genesis 1:27.

You are made in the image of the ultimate creator. Creativity is in your DNA.

It’s biblical and scientific. Dr. George Land conducted a research study to test the creativity of children as they aged. The results were amazing and eye-opening.

Imagination and creativity decrease with age.

Five-year-olds tested at 98 percent and are considered creative geniuses! By age 31, the level of creativity decreased to 2 percent. As you can see, creativity drastically decreases as age increases.

Aren’t you glad you are reading this interactive devotional?

Sometimes we can lose our creative nature because of sin, shame, rules, or pain. We’ll explore those further in act 2, Creativity Killers, and we’ll retrain our creative minds.

As adults, let’s return to that childlike wonder of play and get out of our own way.

Be silly.

Be free.

Be who God created you to be.

Simple prayer

God, help us to start living out Your creative nature. Amen!
