“Why so serious?”
That was the line The Joker, played by Keith Ledger, in the iconic Batman series gave explaining why he had the scars on his face. It became a cult-like phrase. Make no mistake about it, the crisis we are facing in our country is so serious it’s at a tipping point.
However, there are those on the left who are saying to those of us who love the United States of America and would be considered patriots,
“Why so serious?”
Well, there is a large, loud group in our great country who believe that those of us who are flag waving, country loving, stand to our feet, hand over our heart when the national anthem is played Americans, are the obstacle to the next level of societal evolution.
And they’re right!
But it’s not societal evolution, it’s societal devolution! We are the only obstacle to Totalitarianism becoming mainstream while bulldozing our Republic into the ocean.
Why so serious? ( Fascist Totalitarianism )
Because this form of government, which is nothing more than dictatorship by one or many, is responsible for at least one hundred million lives brutally taken, placed in gulags and concentration camps.
First, This form of government which tasks itself with class/race division and warfare is bearing down hard upon us, finally becoming mainstream thinking on our university campuses and, sadly, even numerous churches across the fruited plain…in America!
Second, this form of government is not really government, it is total control from your actions to your thoughts!
This form of government appeals to the “worker” class (I’ve personally worked hard all my life) telling them that their current station in life is not fair and then pledges to give them free stuff and level the playing field by TAKING from someone else and giving it to them. Or even worse, allowing them to TAKE from others without legal ramifications. Or even much worse, allowing them to destroy what others have earned or built by burning it to the ground.
Why so serious?
The apostle Paul wrote, to the churches in Galatia, (5:1)
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
Yes, I’m well aware Paul was referencing the choosing of bondage to the ceremonial law of Moses over the freedom to choose in Christ. It seems to me that Paul was saying, “What were you thinking?” Listen, I get that there are injustices in our country. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said,
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere…”
What about the injustice and very real attack on free speech? Do those of you who are fearful of standing up against the growing tide really believe you will retain your freedom if Totalitarianism wins the day? Read your history in Nazi Germany to see what happened to the pastors who thought all they had to do was support the Reich and they would be left alone. They were left alone…to be totally controlled!
Why so serious?
Because we’re on the precipice of a slippery slope and those on the left are no longer even trying to hide their attempts to push us over the edge.

Because we can no longer afford to be silent.
Why so serious?
Because YOUR freedom and that of your church is at stake. As a fellow pastor, I beg you to lift up your voice and call it for what it is, Fascist Totalitarianism. I dare you to declare to your church
“Not on my watch!”
